Angling Report - Potholes Reservoir - 04/10/21
Taking the W for first hour Big bass was unexpected to say the least. Practice was tough. T-Day was even tougher. Potholes still cold. I think the warmest water we saw was around 52. 40's main lake. Practice fish all came out of deeper water. Smallmouth and largies in the 3-4lb range all up in the dunes. Deep side of Islands. 8-12' dragging that stupid Berkley crazy legs chigger craw in Breem color. It's all we had so thats what we fished. We had to dip it in chartreuse to get bit.
T-Day sucked as many of you know. We did a 180. I hopped some sand bars back into some 'protected' areas. I told myself just because it's clear and we can't see them doesn't mean they're not here. I had to give myself hope somehow. We found em. My partner boated a 5.96 for the hour 1 win. We went back to the exact same spot and I flipped in on the exact same spot and had an ever bigger fish on. Jig got pined in the crotch of the branches and it came off. Heart breaking!. Rest of the day was a grind batting the INSANE weather, running over shallow dunes with dropping water levels and dropping powerpoles and spotlock just to fish and make a cast or two before blowing away. My skeg is now a nice bright chrome. I boated one smaller fish on my last cast but decided to not weight it in. Can't wait for the Limit Out Big Bass in May.
